In preparation for this change, we are happy to announce that effective April 29, 2011, TASER will provide a blast door repair kit for sale, at TASER cost, that enables customers to repair broken blast doors safely and easily. In addition to the new repair kit, cartridges will be accepted for a discounted purchase on a new cartridge.
Please review the options below to learn more:
TASER® cartridges are designed for the blast doors to break off when the cartridge is deployed to allow for the probes to travel unimpeded downrange to engage the target. The blast doors are attached as securely as possible while still allowing reliable break away upon deployment. However, there are situations where the blast doors can break off prior to deployment when the cartridge is subjected to field use.
Over the years, many customers have asked us if we could provide a simple method for them to replace blast doors that have broken off. This would be a much easier and less expensive process than packaging them and shipping them back to TASER for repair.
We are happy to announce that, effective April 29, 2011, TASER will provide a blast door repair kit for sale at TASER cost that enables customers to repair broken blast doors safely and easily. The repair can be accomplished by either a certified TASER Instructor and/or Technician. The replacement blast doors are clear to differentiate the cartridge and the repaired cartridge is only to be used for training (in case there has been internal damage to the cartridge that cannot be seen visually). The repair kit will include a static dissipation mat, a safety shield and a repair procedure defining safety protocols, and the replacement process.
When officers carry cartridges on the XDPM™ magazine or they are not protected by the holster or carry pouch, the cartridge is susceptible to field use damage. Cartridges where the blast door has been damaged by field use are not covered by our warranty, but in the spirit of providing the best customer service possible, we helped our customers by replacing blast doors on special request. However, the shipping costs and logistics have been costly and inconvenient for both TASER International and our customers. This new procedure is much easier and saves money for both our customers and TASER – a win-win.
In addition to the new repair kit we now have a special section on our RMA website (www.TASER.com) applicable to cartridges with broken blast doors. Effective May 31, 2011, cartridges with broken blast doors will no longer be accepted for replacement. However these cartridges will be accepted for a discounted purchase on a new cartridge if you prefer this option over replacing the blast door with the repair kit and the using the repaired cartridge for training.
The repaired cartridges are not warranted by TASER and they should only be used for training. The repair procedure and safety protocol will be added to our technician course and made available in our instructor training.
